On September 21, 2004 ARSR opened a sober, transitional or 3/4 house for men and women. We call it "Joe & Shirley's Place." There are 12 beds. 95% of our residents come to JSP upon release from a treatment center, jail, prison or they are making a safe/sober move from an unhealthy environment. Almost all are homeless. They can stay as long as they need to. Many have stayed well over a year. The program fee is $100.00/wk. There are three houses and an apartment. JSP is co-ed. JSP encourages parents who wish to begin to reunite with children. Many JSP residents have overnight visitation with their kids. JSP is located near the bus routes, Frandor Shopping Center, Michigan State University and Lansing Community College. About 50% of our residents are enrolled in college. JSP is a 5 minute walk to the Alano East Club. JSP residents have access to an on site therapist (MSW, CSW, CAAC). Each house has a live in manager and JSP has an on site general manager as well.
Message From Dave (Diamonds in the Rough Autumn, 2007) I stopped by “Joe & Shirley’s Place” the other morning. There was a fresh brewed cup of coffee handed to me and three warm smiles greeted me. I joined the men at their kitchen table. The smell of eggs and toast filled the air. I looked around; this was a home, not just a house. Whether the men stayed a night or for a year, you could tell, this place is an oasis, a break from the storm from which each came, not so long ago. JSP gives these guys a chance to debrief, reflect, and redirect the course of their lives. No longer alone, they are among new friends. It brings me great satisfaction to be in the midst of these awesome souls. Truly, they are “Diamonds in the Rough.” I want all of you out there, to know what a great impact you are making in the lives of so many men, women and their children. When you support ARSR you give real people real help.
Thank you, sincerely, Dave Beatty Executive Director Addiction Relief & Supported Recovery, Inc. Joe and Shirley's Place Photo
