For a great period of my life I was addicted to drugs and my life was completely unmanageable. Heroin was my drug of choice but, like many other addicts, any drug was acceptable. I decided to ask for help, not just for my disease but for my way of thinking. In April, 2005 I was admitted to St. Lawrence Detox unit were I received great care. After five days of detoxing, I was introduced to Mr. Beatty and was given a bed, food and a place to call home. At “Joe & Shirley’s Place” I found hope and faith in others. Over time I have grown to become a responsible person again, to myself, to my family, children, etc. I am employed full time. I found a God of my understanding. I write this to say that “Joe & Shirley’s Place” gave me a second chance to love myself and others. I am grateful to say that I have 30 months of recovery and yes, I am faced with life’s trials but I know that no day is worse than the days before my recovery. Corey Binns
P.S. If places such as “Joe & Shirley’s Place” were not available, this addict may still be struggling and still homeless with no hope or faith.
Thank you!
